Earth Science + Rock Climbing
I designed this "Age of Old" unit for a fully project-based high school Earth and space science course aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards. Learning about the age and layers of the Earth is not quite as engaging as seeing a chemical reaction or dissecting a rat, but I brought this unit to life by connecting the idea of rock layers to the sport of rock climbing. Students combined physical education skills with science skills to learn about rock climbing as a sport, safety precautions taken, and the importance of the geology of the rock formations. Students also heard an inspirational talk from professional rock climber Alex Honnold about taking risks in life and on the rock face.
Click through the images below representing a snapshot of the instructional content I wrote and the assessments I designed. Instruction was embedded directly into the company's LMS and used the Learnosity API. Note that design constraints included the typeface, branding colors, and other formatting settings that were dictated by the platform itself.

The following infographic was included in a project I designed in collaboration with a Family + Consumer Sciences teacher to combine world geography with a cooking elective. Students explored the stories of the ingredients in their favorite recipes and learned about world climates and crops, the Columbian Exchange, the interconnectedness of today's world, and more. The Campton and Bitter typefaces were used to adhere to the company's branding guidelines.
