After a summer of a little work and lots of play, I am about to start my internship in a fifth grade classroom at Burton Elementary in the Grand Rapids Public Schools. I am beyond excited to work with Mrs. Sisk and the rest of the fifth grade team. We have an awesome group of interns and mentors and I am confident that I'll learn to love working with them, the students, and teaching in general more and more each day I am there. I'm preparing for long nights of planning and grading and early mornings fueled by coffee and eager smiles of students! Hopefully I'll find some weekend time for relaxing and exploring this fun city, too.

As a closing to my senior year field placement and my literacy class, I created a digital story reflecting on my experience and what I learned about implementing a writers' workshop. There are so many aspects to teaching literacy, and developing a student's writing is an especially important part of the English language arts. Check out what I learned in the video below! |
